Meet the Maker
Forty-five years at the bench
Behind every Old Mine piece is a master jeweller who began his apprenticeship at sixteen, and has never stopped working the traditional way.
Melting the gold himself. Rolling it to the correct dimensions. Preparing each gemstone, handcrafting the shank, building a piece from the ground up before moving through to setting and finishing - it's a rhythm that hasn't changed much in 45 years.

On becoming a jeweller
Even before my apprenticeship, I was always drawn to art. As a child, I was recognised for my drawing and developed an early love of sculpture and making things by hand. That passion eventually led me to jewellery, where I found a way to combine creativity with craftsmanship.
On the finish
Ask any jeweller what separates good from exceptional, and it usually comes down to the same thing.
"The finish. A beautiful piece should feel as good as it looks. The final polishing and finishing stages are where everything comes together, and they're what people notice every time they wear it."
On a handcrafted piece
CAD and casting have their place, but they're often geared towards mass production. A handcrafted piece takes longer — but the result is more refined, more personal, and ultimately superior.
What takes the longest to truly master?
Stone setting. Every gemstone has its own girdle, angles and characteristics — each setting has to be adjusted accordingly. It requires patience, precision and years of experience.
What do you enjoy most about working with Old Mine?
Working directly with clients and bringing their ideas to life - knowing it will become part of someone's story for years to come.
